Artificial grass is often mythologised, with many people believing all sorts of things that aren’t true. So here are some of the most popular artificial grass myths debunked, so that you make an educated decision on whether you think artificial grass is for you or not. A few might even surprise you…

1. Artificial Grass Looks Fake

When some people imagine artificial grass, they think back to the fake-looking green astro turf from many, many years ago. But artificial grass has evolved since then. New, sophisticated technology means that artificial grass now looks more real than ever, even with closer inspection!

2. Artificial Grass is Poor for Drainage

With an artificial lawn, there is no need to dread the rain, as water won’t turn into puddles you can’t get rid of. Artificial grass is designed with drainage in mind. It can drain away excess water efficiently, drying even quicker than a natural lawn!

3. It Isn’t Good for Children or Animals

Who knows where this myth came from, as it really isn’t true! Artificial grass is the perfect play surface for kids, as it's soft in case they fall or trip and it's durable enough for play equipment. We have installed artificial grass in many playgrounds in nurserys or schools. As for pets, they treat it exactly the same as a natural lawn. When they go to the loo, it simply drains away or any pet droppings can be easily cleaned from the surface. Check out one of our previous blog posts for more reasons why artificial grass is perfect for pets!

4. It Damages the Environment

Though its true that artificial grass is not made from sustainable materials, this does not mean it isn’t environmentally friendly. In fact, installing artificial grass can benefit the environment. No water, electrical equipment (such as a lawnmower) or damaging chemicals need to be used to maintain an artificial lawn, so in this way it is actually beneficial.

5. It Becomes Too Hot in the Summer

While this may have been true in the past, new, sophisticated technology means that artificial grass no longer gets too hot to the point where it can’t be used. In sunny weather our artificial grass becomes warm under foot, just like a natural lawn, but never too hot to touch.

Artificial grass is the best, low-maintenance alternative to a natural lawn that looks perfect and green all year round. Whilst some of these myths may have been true in the past, artificial grass has evolved and is now one of the most popular features of gardens in Britain.
